Join us as we shape the future of the car and everyone around it. YOUR TEAM The purpose of our PhD Program is to promote innovative topics that are relevant to CARIAD. We cooperate with top universities and bring new research projects to life. Our PhD candidates get the opportunity to develop and implement innovative ideas in their projects for CARIAD and the respective scientific field. The PhD projects are accompanied by a supervisor and a dedicated CARIAD mentor. Essential trainings are provided for the PhD candidates to complete the PhD Program. For the department Automated Parking we are looking for a PhD candidate for the project “Long-term learning strategies for sensor-based mapping and localization”. We take care of innovative automated parking functions from the initial idea, analyzing its requirements to securing its profitability and preparing the final approval – Join the team! Our scope: Develop a continuous parking stack as a scalable modular system for mid and high versions and cost-optimized solutions for basic scopes. WHAT YOU WILL DO Apply research methodologies on: simultaneous mapping, localization (radar based) and video data. Implement prototypes of the developed algorithms and experimental validation on real dataSupport vehicle testing through software development and implementation. Publish and present results in scientific journals and participate in conferencesSupervise students completing thesis projects and internships Cooperate with stakeholders to support the pre-development and series development stages. WHO YOU ARE Completion of Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Cybernetics, Mathematics or a relevant field.Familiarity of relevant methods and algorithms in mapping and localization, machine learning, sensor data fusion, radar data processing and computer vision.Excellent programming knowledge in C++ and Python. Experience with relevant libraries and frameworks (PCL, g2o, PyTorch, etc.) is a plus.Proven hands-on experience in real-world projects Fluent in English, German is a plus.
